Currently, IMDA has 75 members, located throughout the island of Ireland. IMDA is a proactive membership organisation. Its broad focus is to promote and support an environment that encourages the sustainable development and profitable growth of our multinational and indigenous medical device and diagnostic companies. IMDA is working to make Ireland the location of choice for research and development, manufacture and marketing of innovative products in the Medical Device and Diagnostic Sector.This is characterised by: • innovation and entrepreneurship in R&D; • responsiveness to patient and user needs through in-depth market knowledge; • world-class manufacturing and supply chain strategies; • strong growth in added value and exports. The sectors ultimate goal is to become a self-regenerating industry, from which a series of new products can evolve. IMDA works to make this goal a reality. Our strategy: communication, consistency and clarity. IMDA has published a Statement of Strategy 2004-2007, to ensure the Government, its agencies and regulators understand the industrys contribution to the Irish economy and on-going needs. IMDA has made six clear recommendations to enable a move from basic manufacturing to added value processes and R&D: • An environment that actively supports innovation and R&D. • The availability of skilled and adaptable employees. • A significant improvement in Irelands cost competitiveness. • A world class infrastructure in Ireland. • A positive regulatory environment. • A balanced social and human resource legislative framework.The entire strategy document is available to download from the information centre of our website: http://www.ibec.ie/imda Home > IMDA     ");

EDMA membership, composed of 21 National Associations and 14 corporate members, manufactures biological and chemical reagents, automated machines and devices that are used for the medical analyses of body fluids. Laboratory testing helps to determine the cause of a disease or infection. It is also used to monitor and guide treatment that is given and may be used in preventive medicine to screen groups of people at risk. For better decisions in healthcare In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) testing is often referred to as ‘the Cinderella of healthcare’ and the amount spent on IVD out of the total healthcare expenditures is minimal. IVD market estimates represent generally around 1% of the total healthcare expenditure in Europe. Increased testing can contribute significantly to the quality of healthcare as it allows earlier and more appropriate treatment, thus helping to rule out expensive therapies and reducing costs of treatment of complications. IVDs also help to reduce the spread of infectious diseases in the community. Short-term investment in IVDs will not appreciably increase costs of healthcare; on the contrary, it will be indispensable to bring long-term benefits for healthcare as a whole, allowing global potential savings while ensuring that treatment is relevant and more cost-effective. EDMA mission is to raise awareness of the value of in vitro testing, to support an appropriate regulatory system, to work towards a realistic economic environment for health care in Europe and to be an effective voice in globalisation.Further information on EDMA activities: www.edma-ivd.be About EDMA Home > EDMA     ");

The British In Vitro Diagnostics Association (BIVDA) was established in 1992 as the national trade association for companies with major involvement and interest in the In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) industry. BIVDA represents today the interest of more than 95% of the industry active in the UK, including both manufacturers and distributors. Giving support to members on Regulatory issues, BIVDA also promotes the clinical and cost utility of IVDs in the provision of effective Healthcare, both in Acute Diagnosis and in the Prediction and Prevention of disease. The Difference Diagnostics Can Make BIVDA’s goal is to spread awareness of the value of diagnostics in the wider theatre of healthcare. The ongoing revolution in medical science means that diagnostics is really coming of age, offering exciting opportunities in not only disease treatment, but also prevention. By working with the industry and all interested bodies to provide comprehensive information, a robust regulatory framework and in-depth outcome studies, BIVDA strives to ensure these opportunities are not missed. BIVDA also aims to raise awareness of the difference diagnostics can make to success of the healthcare in financial terms. Increased use of diagnostics can save money long term by diagnosing disease earlier and hence the value of the UK market to industry will also increase. Currently only 5% of the NHS budget is spent on the diagnosis which provide 60 to 70% of the information on the electronic patient record.
